Super Bowl XLV

I have to say upfront that I’m a New England Patriots fan.  Both the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers have denied the Patriots a Super Bowl in the recent past, so I don’t really care who loses.  I don’t think I’ve seen a Packers game all year and probably couldn’t name even one Green Bay starter.

When I was a kid, I had a Pittsburg Steelers sweatshirt.  I was a fan of the mighty steel curtain.  I remember Mean Joe Green, and LC Greenwood.  And Jack Ham and Jack Lambert – Mel Blount too.  And who could forget those potent offenses with Bradshaw, Franco Harris and Lynn Swan.   The Packers weren’t very good in the 70’s when I was growing up and I can’t remember many of their players – John Brockington is the only name that comes to mind.

My only real connection to either team apart from childhood memories, is a friend from college who lives in Pittsburgh and is a Steelers fan.  For this reason, I’ll probably root for Pittsburgh.  Oh, and I just remembered that my daughter visited the city last year on an art museum tour.   I wonder if Andy Warhol was a Steelers fan?

On the Packers side, my sister lives in Chicago and occasionally travels to Wisconsin.  She is fond of cheese.  Cheese Fondu.  And I am fond of Cheez Doodles, Cheetos, Natcho Cheese Doritos and cheese dip made with velveeta, cumin, chili powder and rotel.

Prediction:  Steelers over the Packers by a touchdown, 28-21.

  1. Nice blog, ribbie.

Is it a bad omen to wear a Chicago Bulls t-shirt to the place where I’m watching the Super Bowl? I mean, considering the Bears/Packers rivalry and how I’m sure most Bears fans out there are rooting for Pittsburgh.

  2. Probably not. Shows objectivity on your part. I’ll be wearing my Red Sox cap.
